Your First Massage- What to Expect

Written by Emma Tommasini

It’s time to relax. The friendly staff and professional massage therapists at First Things First Wellness Centre are committed to providing a calm, stress-free experience, every time. Here’s what you can expect.

Once you arrive, if you are a new client, you will be asked to fill out a form to record any relevant medical history, injuries or physical conditions we should be aware of. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early for your appointment to complete these forms.

Your therapist will review the forms with you, and discuss the reasons for your visit and any specific areas you would like to address during your massage. Session time includes 5 minutes for consultation and dressing.

Your therapist will tell you the level of undress required, usually down to your underwear. They will also advise if you should lay face up or down on the massage table to begin. They will leave the room for you to get comfortable on the table laying under the top sheet. During your session, your therapist will only uncover the area of your body being worked on.

It’s all about you. Communication is key to receiving the most effective treatment for achieving your relaxation and wellness goals. You can receive either a customized full-body massage for general relaxation or stress reduction, or a treatment focusing on specific parts of your body.

During your massage, relax your muscles and your mind. Breathe normally and try not to tighten or contract your muscles. Your therapist will ask you to let them know if any of the techniques are causing discomfort or pain.

When your massage is complete, your therapist will ask you to get up slowly, once they have left the room. You will be provided with a warm towel if needed to refresh. Your therapist will wait outside the room to see how you are feeling and give you a cup of water.

You will be shown to the reception area where you are welcome to relax or check out. Payment and re-booking can be scheduled. We have a touch screen at reception with a short 30 second survey to rate you treatment.

We look forward to welcoming you for your first visit.
