Silk V's Mink V's Synthetic Lashes.. Whats Better?

Written by Gracie Dale

Lash extensions can be a little bit confusing if you’re new to the concept. Here’s a brief rundown of the three main types of extensions available and the differences between them.

What Are Synthetic Eyelash Extensions?

Synthetic extensions are the most budget-friendly eyelash extension on the market. They’re made from acrylic and feel quite hard. They often look very black, glossy and dramatic because they’re generally quite thick and “plasticy”.

The Beauty Bar doesn’t offer synthetic extensions as our goal for our clients is for the lashes to look long and natural – similar to the way a celebrity or model would look. With big, soft and full sets of lashes.

What Are Silk Eyelash Extensions?

Silk eyelash extensions are finer, softer and more flexible than the synthetic type. They are super flexible which means they last longer on the natural lash. They look extra glamorous thanks to how natural they are. If that wasn’t already enough to sell you on silk over synthetic…did you know that they’re lighter too? They are basically the same as a natural lash but with added length. This is our Preferred choice at The Beauty Bar at First Things First Wellness Centre.

What Are Mink Eyelash Extensions?

Most eyelash extension boutiques offer mink extensions which leads the client to believe it is real mink fur. Did you know that real mink fur is rarely used for extensions these days? The main reason is due to animal cruelty but hygiene also plays a part in it.

Faux-mink lash extensions are what is widely referred to as “mink extensions”. These are man-made fibres that imitate real mink fur. They are extremely soft and silky and provide all the benefits of mink fur without the animal cruelty. Even the trained eye couldn’t tell real mink to faux-mink eyelash extensions these days.

They take longer to apply than traditional silk lashes. They are also shinier than silk lashes giving a more glossy look.
