History
LPG developed the Keymodule equipment and the associated EndermologieŽ treatment, as we know it today, through a research process that was originally focused on the treatment of burns and scars. The founder of LPG, Louis-Paul Guitay, invented the prototype of the Keymodule in 1986 after suffering from burns, scars, and muscle damage in a car accident.

In an effort to soften the scar tissue and restore muscle function, Guitay was prescribed manual connective tissue massages several times a week. Each treatment required 3.5 - 4 hours of massage by several therapists. The massage treatments consisted of rolling the scarred skin to assist in the production of elastic fibres. However, Guitay noted that the manual method was both time consuming and labour intensive, and the results varied considerably depending on the therapist.

To improve the process, Guitay, an engineer, devised a similar massage method using mechanical means. Guitay's machine provided the same type of massage in less time, with less effort, with greater consistency, and with variable pressures.

Therefore, the LPG Cellu M6 Keymodule equipment plus the EndermologieŽ treatment is based on the principles and benefits of manual connective tissue massage therapy.

The initial use of the LPG Technique was for the treatment of muscle trauma, burns and scars similar to those suffered by Guitay. During research and testing of the equipment, and the associated treatments, physicians noticed that the LPG Technique not only improved scar tissue, but also skin texture and quality. These improvements include the reduction in the appearance of cellulite and altered fat distribution within the test subjects (Bacci, 2004).

The protocols for the LPG Technique have since expanded to include the reduction in appearance of cellulite, body sculpting and re-contouring, toning and firming of loose skin, and the treatment of oedematous conditions.

The LPG Technique has grown immensley and is now used in 95 countries, with more than 100,000 treatments performed worldwide each day. Around 6.5 million people have been treated worldwide and the number is growing rapidly.

Louis-Paul Guitay founded LPG in 1986 with his first piece of equipment. The equipment has been upgraded over the years to the present model, the Cellu M6 Keymodule I (above). Apart from EndermologieŽ treatment, the current Keymodule also has applications in the areas of wellness, therapeutics, surgery and sport. These are described below.

EndermologieŽ
The results of the EndermologieŽ treatments include reduction in the appearance of cellulite, body contouring and shaping, loss of fluid retention as well as toning and firming of loose skin.
Wellness
The results of the 'Wellness' application include increased vascular circulation, increased lymphatic flow, and detoxification.
Therapeutics
The therapeutic applications of the Keymodule include the treatment of burns, scars, venous insufficiency, and Lymphoedema.
Surgery
The applications for pre and post surgery include connective tissue preparation for surgical trauma, reduction of scar tissue formation post surgery, and accelerated recovery post surgery thereby lessening post-surgical surface irregularities.
Sports
The sports application of the Keymodule include pre-exercise conditioning of muscles, an increased range of movement (ROM), decrease in delayed onset muscular soreness (DOMS), increased lactic acid recovery, greater endurance, treatment of joint stiffness, treatment of ligaments and tendons, as well as the treatment of muscular spasm and lesions.
